Brief

Morgan Sindall is one of the UK’s largest building contractors, with the construction of schools for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) being one of its principal specialialisms.

Morgan Sindall wanted to start a national conversation on issues surrounding the construction of SEN schools and what constitutes best practice.

Challenge

Morgan Sindall commissioned Influential to conduct primary research in the SEN sector, the findings of which would be used to write a White Paper that could help stimulate debate on the strategic direction of SEN schools.

Influential conducted 16 depth interviews with a range of experts looking at the issue from various perspectives.  The recruited sample included architects, end users, politicians, procurement and thought leaders.

The research findings were then used to write a White Paper, which identified a range of talking points to be debated further.  These included: what makes a great SEN school, government regulations, future challenges and knowledge gaps.

Following on from the publication of the White Paper a series of round table discussions were conducted with a range of different industry experts and stakeholders. In addition to this the research formed the basis for op-ed pieces in industry publications.
