Brief

After helping take the £1.6bn Mayfield regeneration plans from public consultation through to construction, we were awarded the brief to launch the first phase of the scheme.

Introducing Manchester’s new 6-acre city centre park.

Challenge

With zero advertising budget to support us, creative PR tactics had to do the heavy lifting in letting the people of Manchester know their new urban oasis was finally open!

Media crew interviewing a stakeholder of Manchester's Mayfield Park.

Because Mayfield Park will be a public asset long into the future, we decided it was only right that young Mancunians should experience it first.

We invited 100 local school kids to experience the key benefits the park will deliver – wellbeing, exercise, nature, heritage and, of course, play.

As part of our event management approach, we curated a packed schedule of events. From football drills hosted by Manchester City FC and mindfulness sessions to yoga, a history tour and ample time to enjoy the park’s huge new playground.

To amplify the campaign, we engaged journalists, bloggers, and influencers through a targeted communications strategy. This included inviting them to capture the activities and conduct interviews with key stakeholders and project experts.

Results

A total of 15 national, regional, and broadcast journalists and 18 TV and radio broadcasts took place from the park.

This meant that when the gates opened to the public, Mayfield Park welcomed a steady stream of curious and enthusiastic visitors.

In total 75 pieces of media coverage were secured including The Guardian, The i, and across BBC and ITV commercial radio.
